Planning To Use Public Transport In France And Italy

By: Paolo Matzi

Systems of public transport France Italy are designed to carry huge numbers of people to popular attractions all over the countries. From the wineries of Normandy to famous Italian beaches, travelers can reach their destinations using mass transit and a little planning. If visitors are more spontaneous, they may choose to purchase a Rail Pass that is good for any number of journeys during a set period of time, so that the traveler is free to create their itinerary as they go along. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to get tickets in advance.

If you are traveling between Italy and France, consider either a short flight from one of the many convenient airports or, if you have time, a journey on a sleeper car. These are trains that travel through the night and might get you to your destination rested and ready for a new day. It may be wise to get a reservation in advance over the Internet for either trip.

In France, rail tickets can be purchased at most stations. The subway in Paris is called the Metro. This is a very popular way to see the city with many convenient stops. Trains run frequently during the day and less frequently during the night. If you board public transport without a ticket, you risk a fine that may be a minimum sixty Euros.

Rome, Italy boasts a subway called the Metropolitana. These trains run in a circle around the city, but do not go through it. To get to an address within Rome itself, many people choose to take a bus. To buy tickets for the bus, there are vending machines at the large stops, which require exact change, or tickets are sold at newspaper stands or bars around town. Electric buses also go into narrow alleyways and passages, too small for standard vehicles to fit.

A fun alternative in southern Italy is to take the ferries, which carry passengers up and down the coast or to offshore locations like Capri or Sicily. Go to the company websites to download the boat schedules. Make note of which season you are checking, since there may be separate times for summer or winter.

A Rail Pass can offer you the benefit of flexibility if you are not one hundred percent sure of your itinerary on in advance. Rail Passes, for public transport France Italy, allow you to change direction at the drop of a hat since you can use the pass to board most railways in both countries at will for the entire time the pass is good. There is no worry about purchasing tickets in advance or online. This gives you the freedom to follow your heart as you explore the beauty of Italy and France.
